Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Premier League (WPL) is set to kick off on Saturday 7 May 2016.
As Soka learns, the league which will be composed of 16 teams will be divide into two zones, A and B; the latter comprising teams in the Western part of the country the former of team in the Eastern side that includes Nairobi and Mombasa, and the corresponding environs.
Ratification
Zone A will have nine teams while Zone B will be made up of seven teams.
According to provisional fixtures sent out to clubs for perusal, before final ratification by FKF, the opening day will see Vihiga Greens take on Baringo County in Zone B with Spedag facing off with Mombasa Olympic in a Coastal derby set for the Mombasa Sports Club.
The winners of the last league that was played in a tournament format - Thika Queens will start off with Old is Gold in Thika in Group A
As the fixtures await a final nod, registration for the league by the 16 teams will wrap on Friday 22 April. the registration window opened last week Monday 11 April.
Each team is expected to submit its list of players for the season after which they will receive player cards for the season.
First and second leg
The first leg will run for three months, from the Saturday 7 May to Sunday 7 August. The will be no break as the second leg will start the weekend after, from Saturday 13 August to Sunday 9 October.
At the close of the season, the winner of Zone A will face off with the winner of Zone A on Saturday 20 October, a game expected to curtain raise the Domestic Cup final.
Transfer window
The transfer window for the league will last two weeks, from Monday 8 August through to Monday 22 August.
