Coaches step into hot seat

The Kenyan Premier League which enters its seventh round this weekend has already claimed two coaches.

The Kenyan Premier League which enters its seventh round this weekend has already claimed two coaches. Former Gor Mahia coach Frank Nuttall was the first to leave when he resigned four weeks ago and then Thika United’s Moses Irungu was sacked after failing to inspire the struggling side.

So this weekend, two new coaches step into the hot seat hoping to turn around their clubs fortunes. The new man at Thika United James Nandwa and his Gor Mahia counterpart Jose Ferrera Marcelo famously known as Ze Maria face their first competitive matches today just two weeks after being hired.

The Thika-based side host Posta Rangers while Gor Mahia travel to Mumias to tackle Kakamega Homeboyz. Both Thika United and Gor Mahia remain winless after five matches, putting pressure on the two men to end the bad run of results. Nandwa has previously built a reputation for turning around struggling sides.

He did it with AFC Leopards two years ago. Ahead of today’s fixture, Nandwa has expressed confidence that he can try and help inspire his side. “We have a good team. The players are young and look determined.

They just need a bit of push and inspiration which I am here to provide,” he said. In the same vain, Thika United captain Dennis Odhiambo says he is saddened by the poor results posted by the team.

“We have just been unlucky. If you look at our performance, we have always given our best, but we have not had the luck to win. We must do something quickly to end the bad run of results because it is eroding our confidence,” said the Harambee Stars defender.

Rangers go into this match after picking a number of draws and coach Zedekiah Otieno will be keen to get a win. For goals, Rangers need not look further than Timothy Otieno who has so far netted four times.
